If there had never been a V2 game and this came out today, nobody would think it looked old at all. But on Xbox One X, the game certainly outshines the old Xbox 360 version by a wide margin.
According to Steam user reviews, the Remastered version doesn’t look much different than the original PC version. The enhancements primarily include improved texture maps, lighting, and particle effects. V2 Remastered promises several improvements, starting with remastered graphics. Sniper Elite’s slow pace and emphasis on setting up perfect long-range shots never gets old. The levels are far less expansive than those of Sniper Elite 4, but they’re still quite enjoyable. Players will progress through large, mostly linear levels, sneaking to avoid alerting Nazi soldiers, sniping lots of enemies, and completing various objectives like planting bombs and eliminating vehicles. The V2 campaign consists of ten missions, all playable in 2-player online co-op, plus a single-player prologue (tutorial). Karl’s mission is to rescue the German scientists responsible for the V-2 missile program for the Allies before they fall into Russian hands. Timeline is a bit nebulous in this series, with V2 actually taking place later in the war than III and 4. Okay, so he’s not much of a character, but he certainly knows how to kill a big pile of Nazis.
Sniper Elite V2 functions as a retelling of the first Sniper Elite, introducing the world to incredibly charming and memorable WWII sniper Karl Fairburne. With Sniper Elite III and 4 having already improved on the original formula in multiple ways, does the world need a better-looking version of V2? Maybe not, but V2 Remastered still offers plenty of 2-player online co-op sniping thrills – and it’s the first Sniper Elite game on Switch. Although it only holds 7 rounds per mag and ammunition is fairly rare, it has a moderate rate of fire and deals the most damage out of all the semi-auto handguns.Seven years after the original release of Sniper Elite V2, Rebellion has just unleashed Sniper Elite V2 Remastered on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC.
